What is Therapeutic Ultrasound

Ultrasound therapy is used to help provide deep heating to soft tissues (i.e. muscles, tendons, joints and ligaments) in the body. Ultrasound is used primarily for two effects including deep heating treatment and non-thermal uses.

What Injuries does Ultrasound Treat?

Common treated injuries include:

  • Bursitis

  • Tenonditis

  • Muscle strains and tears

  • Frozen shoulder

  • Sprains and ligament injuries

  • Joint contracture or tightness

  • Hematomas (bruises)

How can Ultrasound Treatment Help Me?

Both deep heating and non-thermal effects on the tendon, muscles or ligaments can increase circulation (blood flow) and decrease inflammation. Therefore it can assist in the healing process and help decrease pain levels.

The therapist will know which settings are needed for your specific injury and will modify accordingly if needed.
